Six Seasons Youth Program

The Omushkego Six Seasons Youth Program wishes you all a very merry holiday season. We hope you all have the opportunity to rest and recharge over the holidays. Our program is very much new, and very much excited, to be a part of the Mushkegowuk family.

Our team comprises of Christina Kioke (Program Manager), Bunny Sutherland (Program Assistant), Gisele Rickard (Cree Language Coordinator), Michael Corston (Traditional Aski Coordinator), and Jamie Davey (Cultural Coordinator). Our program aims to strengthen and support our urban youths’ identity and sense of belonging through the promotion of the Cree language and traditional and cultural practices. We hope that by strengthening our youths’ sense of identity and belonging, we will improve their overall emotional, mental, and spiritual health, subsequently decreasing the threat and risk of suicide.

We have provided our youth with many opportunities in the form of workshops and training, including ribbon shirt/skirt workshops, foraging workshops, tamarack geese workshops, and First Aid & CPR and firearms and hunters’ education training.

One of our most exciting and successful events was our very first Omushkegowuk Youth Treaty Conference! It was such an exciting week for our team and for our participants. The youth were very much engaged and have already been asking when the next conference will be. Now that our team has grown, we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for our Omushkego Six Seasons Youth Program.
