Youth

Our mission is to provide a safe place for Omushkegowuk Youth to experience culture, recreation, and land-based opportunities with a holistic approach.

Objective

To provide a platform for Mushkegowuk Youth to amplify their voice through creative, innovative, and meaningful programming. To assist in building community capacity for local Youth Councils/groups and Youth Workers. To support Mushkegowuk Communities by assisting in identifying possible funding opportunities and submitting applications with willing partnering communities.

Guiding Principles

Youth are provided with meaningful and culturally appropriate opportunities that impact their future. The activities are designed to enhance their development in executing action plans through these teachings.

Though our programming, our intention is for youth voices to be heard and amplified across the seven First Nations.

We create and encourage relationships between youth councils and groups as well as youth-serving organizations and youth workers across the Mushkegowuk region.

Our sustainability of youth-focused activities in the Mushkegowuk region is enhanced through collaboration and communication

Three Key Youth Pillars

Amplifying Youth Voice: To amplify voices and support the success of Omushkegowuk Youth.

Building Community Capacity: Building the capacity of First Nations youth councils/groups. Connecting youth workers/youth-serving organizations to engage and support young people through positive life opportunities.

Ongoing Coordination and Collaboration: Supporting First Nations’ planning for key programs and funding/grants to maximize opportunities for Mushkegowuk Youth.

The Art of Healing Program

The Art of Healing program hosts various youth focused art based workshops and presentations both virtually and in person. The focus is how Art and Craft can be used as a coping and self exploration tool, as well as the therapeutic value that creating holds. The workshops and presentations are created and curated based on response from community’s needs and goals as well as collaborations with other service providers and therapeutic techniques.
