Emergency Management

Emergency Management at Mushkegowuk Council focuses on supporting member First Nations in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters. This vital service ensures that communities have the resources, training, and plans needed to address a wide range of challenges, including natural disasters, public health crises, and infrastructure emergencies.

 The program emphasizes:

  • Preparedness: Developing community-specific emergency plans, conducting training exercises, and increasing awareness to reduce vulnerabilities.
  • Response: Coordinating immediate actions to protect lives, property, and the environment during emergencies.
  • Recovery: Assisting communities in rebuilding and restoring after an event, ensuring long-term resilience.
  • Collaboration: Working with local leaders, provincial and federal agencies, and emergency response organizations to provide coordinated and effective support.

Through culturally sensitive approaches, the Mushkegowuk Council’s Emergency Management program strengthens community capacity, ensuring that the unique needs and traditions of Omushkego Cree communities are respected during times of crisis.
