Gaétan Malette
Member of Parliament
Kapuskasing-Timmins-James Bay
Dear Mr. Malette,
I would like to congratulate you on being elected as our new federal representative.
As you’re likely aware, Mushkegowuk Council represents seven First Nations, comprising a massive portion of your Kapuskasing-Timmins-James Bay riding. In recent months, there have been some growing concerns among my people about government relations with First Nations.
However, during your campaign I was encouraged to hear you talk about your background in resource development and favourable dealings you helped build with local First Nations in that capacity.
Acknowledgement and respect of Treaty and inherent rights is of vital importance to our people
I was left with the impression that we may have shared interests and values that may provide the foundation for productive discussions.
As soon as you are settled into your new role, I would be very pleased to meet with you. Hopefully, we can schedule a meeting in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Grand Chief Leo Friday,
Mushkegowuk Council
