Banners promote positive, life-affirming message

Mushkegowuk Council Deputy-Grand Chief Amos Wesley says he simply wanted to share a positive, life-affirming message to community members.

And he came up with a big way to do it.

Wesley spearheaded an initiative to provide each Mushkegowuk community with a 4-foot-by-20-foot banner that encourages people to stay off drugs and “live the good life.”

“We are losing too many people to drugs and people who are affected by their mental health,” Wesley explained, when asked about the reason behind the messaging. “There is help out there for people who need it; there are choices people can make in their lives, and this is just about providing a big, positive message.”

He is hoping Mushkegowuk communities will take the opportunity to hang the large banners in arenas, community halls, gymnasiums or any other public place.

The Deputy-Grand Chief said he plans to deliver the banners to each community sometime in early February.
