RESOLUTION NO. 1986-12
-SUBJECT: t-RAND CANAL SCHEll1E
WHEREAS the Muskegog Cree Council C',eneral Assembly has expressed concerns regarding the environmental irnoact the proposed Grand Canal Scheme could have in the Jarnes Bay area;
WHEPEAS the impact such a scheme would have on the James Bay communities and wildlife has not been properly assessed by the provincial and federal governments;
WHEREAS the delegates o-f this assembly are certain the r:rana Canal Scheme would have a serious negative imPact on the peoole and wildÂlife in James Bay;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the 111uskeooq Cree Council does not endorse or in anv wav suooort any development initiated by D-randco or 0th.er interested qrouos to carrv out feasiabilitv studies or construct the orooosed Grand Canal displacing fresh or salt water of the ,James Bav and its tributaries.
