RESOLUTION NO. 1987-31

SURJECT: EDUCATION TRANSFER PLANNING COMMITTEE

WHEREAS the Weenusk (Peawanuck), Attawapiskat, Kashechewan and Fort Albany Bands have indicated by Band Council Resolution that they wish to transfer control of the schools on their reserves from the Department of Indian and Northern Development to community control, and;

WHEREAS the above Bands have also indicated by. Band Council Resolution that they wish to assist each other in this transfer.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

An Education Transfer Planning Committee be established by this Assembly as follows:

membership will consist of one member and one alternate nominated by each of the Weenusk (Peawanuck), Attawapiskat, Kashechewan and Fort Albany; one member and one alternate named oy the Directors of the Mushkegowuk Council; and the Education Advisor, and;

the Committee's mandate shall be to develop the terms of reference for the Tribal Education authority giving local communities as much control as possible over educational matters assigned by the Directors of the Mushkegowuk Council, and;

the Committee's budget shall come from the pre-transfer education funding of $220,000.00.

That plans to operate the schools at Peawanuck, Attawapiskat, Kashechewan and Fort Albany in September 1988 be reviewed and ratified by Chiefs and Councils at a general assembly to be held before March 1, 1988.
