RESOLUTION NO. 1987-36

SUBJECT: CONSTITUTION OF CANADA

WHEREAS we, the Mushkegowuk Council, have always managed our own affairs, and;

WHEREAS our aboriginal right of self­government has never been surrendered, and;

WHEREAS we were promised when Treaty No. 9 was signed in 1905 that the Chief and Council would have complete authority on our reserves, and;

WHEREAS we do not fully understand the iŁplications of the Constitution Act, 1982 and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Assembly supports the following:

That information workshops on the implications of the Constitution Act, 1982 be held in each community as soon as possible.
