RESOLUTION NO. 1987-51

MORATORIUM ON MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES FALL GOOSE SURVEYS

WHEREAS we never surrendered our traditional lands or our aboriginal rights, including our role as custodians of the fish, birds and anima1 s , and ;

WHEREAS the aerial surveys conducted by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources primarily to identify the geese available for sport hunting in the United States of America disturbs the waterfowl at a critical time in their fall staging and migration, and;

WHEREAS our people depend on migratory water­fowl for our livelihood and subsistence, and;

WHEREAS we are re-asserting our sovereignty as a Nation.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Assembly advises the Directors and staff of the Mushkegowuk Council to meet with senior officials of the Ontario Government to arrange a moratorium on aerial goose surveys.
