RESOLUTION NO. 1987-53

SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING NEGOTIATIONS

WHEREAS in February 1987 the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation, the federal government, and the provincial government signed a Memorandum of Understanding to negotiate different issues of importance to Nishnawbe-Aski Nation and self government, and;

WHEREAS the negotiations have been adjourned to allow the parties to develop their positions, and;

WHEREAS Nishnawbe-Aski Nation has worked toward a comprehensive strategy for the negotiations and developed three possible strategy options.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mushkegowuk Council recommend to Nishnawbe-Aski Nation that it not commit itself to a negotiating approach at present, but negotiate for funding to enable Tribal Council to conduct consultation and research.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT after such consultation and research the Council provide recommendations and direction to Nishnawbe-Aski Nation as to the subjects, goals and areas of negotiation.
