RESOLUTION NO. 1987-57

SUBJECT: DIVISION OF ALBANY BAND

WHEREAS the communities of Kashechewan and Fort Albany (Sinclair Island) wish to form two separate Bands, and;

WHEREAS the communities of Attawapiskat and Winisk received separate reserves in 1929-30 when they separated from the Aloany Band without reducing the size of Indian Reserve No. 67.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT this Assembly agrees:

That we fully support and assist the Fort Albany (Sinclair Island) Band in obtaining an adequate and separate reserve for its member­ship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT we agree, only after this reserve has been secured, that:

We support and assist the community of Kashechewan in establishing its own Band list for a new Band, to be called the Kashechewan Band.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND UNDERSTOOD THAT the Kashechewan Band shall retain only that portion of Indian Reserve No. 67 which lies north of the channel of the Albany River.
