RESOLUTION NO. 1990-139

SUBJECT: PEAWANUCK SCHOOL

WHEREAS the Weenusk First Nation lost all of its community infrastructure in the flood of May 16, 1986;

AND WHEREAS the Department of Indian Affairs had the responsibility and the obligation to replace the whole community to its pre-disaster conditions when Peawanuck was being rebuilt;

AND WHEREAS the Department of Indian Affairs has not replaced the school for the community;

AND WHEREAS the Department of Indian Affairs has utilized three residential units from the First Nation's housing program for a period of one year for two classrooms and one permanent teacherage for temporary measures;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Chiefs in Assembly request the Department of Indian Affairs to appropriate funding immediately for the construction of a new school for the community of Peawanuck for the fiscal year of 1991/92.
