RESOLUTION NO. 1991-16

WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Society, culturally speaking, has been an egalitarian society (men and women as equals);

WHEREAS contact with non-Mushkegowuk society has eroded this through various methods;

WHEREAS the Special Retreat held by the Board of Directors (Lava Mountain Retreat) recognized the lack of official involvement of Mushkegowuk women in this struggle towards self-government;

WHEREAS, as a result of this concern, each Chief and Council was to identify one woman in each community to work on achieving the greater involvement of women;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly endorse the establishment of a Mushkegowuk Womens' Association by employing a woman to co-ordinate and advise the member First Nations on how to achieve the greater involvement of women as we move towards self-government.
