RESOLUTION NO. 1993-01
Subject: Mobile Solvent Abuse Treatment Unit Service for Attawapiskat First Nation
WHEREAS the solvent abuse problem in the community of Attawapiskat has reached epidemic proportions;
AND WHEREAS two deaths have recently occurred as a result of this addiction, the latest being a suicide on September 3, 1993;
AND WHEREAS the community is in a state of crisis that is leading to caregivers and service providers experiencing "burn out";
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Medical Services Branch, Ontario Region shall designate the community of Attawapiskat as the top priority to be assisted by the newly formed Mobile Solvent Abuse Treatment Unit;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mobile Solvent Abuse Treatment Unit shall provide their services and support to Attawapiskat starting no later than November 1, 1993;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mobile Solvent Abuse Treatment Unit shall work under the direction of the Attawapiskat Solvent Abuse Committee.
