RESOLUTION NO. 1993-02

Subject: Aniska Webemadeseewin Fort Albany First Nation Birthing Center

WHEREAS the Fort Albany First Nation has submitted a proposal for the establishment of a Birthing Center where services will be delivered by professional midwives;

AND WHEREAS Fort Albany I s proposal includes a training component to provide an opportunity for professional training to interested community members;

AND WHEREAS the Birthing Center will provide an alternative service to low risk expectant mothers from the Mushkegowuk communities;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Assembly hereby supports and endorses the establishment of a James Bay Birthing Center to be based in Fort Albany;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Moose Factory General Hospital and James Bay General Hospital are hereby requested to provide support letters and to participate with the Birthing Center board of directors in the establishment of service protocols for medi-vac, medical assistance and other necessary technical support services;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Moose Factory General Hospital and Cochrane District Health Council are hereby requested to take all actions possible to advocate and support the establishment of the Birthing Center.
