RESOLUTION NO. 1993-26
Subject: Mushkegowuk Assistance for Certain Land Claims
WHEREAS Mushkegowuk members Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Peawanuck and New Post have constitutionally protected rights to the lands and resources in Mushkegowuk territories;
AND WHEREAS in some parts of Mushkegowuk territory there are immediate pressures on resources such as timber and minerals;
AND WHEREAS it is critical that the above First Nations be able to assert their rights, and to do so immediately;
AND WHEREAS these rights and claims can be pursued through different legal and political methods, and some of these methods require a period of years;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Council assist the Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Peawanuck and New Post First Nations with information and co-ordination in pursuing land claims, if requested by the First Nations.
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk council act on behalf of the Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Peawanuck and New Post First Nations in making land claims, if

the Council is requested to act by one or more of these members (it being understood that Mushkegowuk Council will not act for a First Nation without the consent of that First Nation).
