RESOLUTION NO. 1994-03-01

Aboriginal Community Health Centre

WHEREAS the Ministry of Health provides capital funding for Aboriginal Health Centres;

WHEREAS the Aboriginal Health Policy currently under consideration recommends the development of Aboriginal Community Health Centres in Ontario including one on the James Bay Coast;

WHEREAS the Attawapiskat First Nation has been working for two years to institute a multiĀ­service centre with a range of recreational, social and health services;

WHEREAS the Attawapiskat First Nation wants the delivery of Health services through innovative, alternative approaches to traditional health care delivery;

WHEREAS the Aboriginal Health Office has stated that the location of the proposed health centre will be determined in consultation with the communities of James Bay and would take into account a number of factors including availability of appropriate services and identified need;

MUSHKEGOWUK COUNCIL SPECIAL RESOLUTION

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council Assembly support the Attawapiskat First Nation in its bid to have the Ministry of Health create an Aboriginal Community Health Centre in Attawapiskat.
