RESOLUTION NO. 1994-03-02

Development on the Albany River

WHEREAS the communities of Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation are linked to the Albany River system; and

WHEREAS the Constance Lake First Nation is in the process of developing a mini-dam on the river system upstream; and

WHEREAS the Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation were not made aware of the project by any party; and

WHEREAS the Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation are concerned about the impact that the development will cause downstream; and

WHEREAS an Environmental Assessment was performed with no acknowledgement of the potential concerns of Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation; and

WHEREAS the development of the project has been approved by the provincial ministries;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Mushkegowuk Council Assembly supports the Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation in their concerns about the effects of the Constance Lake river development;

MUSHKEGOWUK COUNCIL SPECIAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Council supports the request of Kashechewan First Nation and Fort Albany First Nation that the project be suspended until their concerns about project impacts can be resolved.
