RESOLUTION NO. 1994-03-05

Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin

WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Chiefs created "Partners in Change" in June 1989 in order to preserve and enhance the provision of quality health care services in the Mushkegowuk Region and establish a unified, First Nations controlled health care system; and

WHEREAS in pursuit of these objectives the Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin was incorporated in December 1993 on behalf of the communities of New Post, Moose Factory, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, Weenusk, Moosonee and Mocreebec; and

WHEREAS the Health Ahtuskaywin is committed to support initiatives of member communities toward assuming control of the health care systems, locally and regionally, through a process of transfer from the federal and provincial governments; and

WHEREAS the Health Ahtuskaywin has begun an incremental process of transfer of federal health care programs and services; and

WHEREAS the Health Ahtuskaywin is consulting with the communities for purposes of planning the future of hospital services in Mushkegowuk territory;

MUSHKEGOWUK COUNCIL SPECIAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council offers its continuing support for the actions and direction taken by the Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin towards realization of this shared vision of health care in the Mushkegowuk region.
