RESOLUTION NO. 1994-03-07

Support for HJBCOA

WHEREAS the Hudson James Bay Cree Outfitters Association (HJBCOA) has been working with camp owners to build a strong tourism industry for the Mushkegowuk communities,

AND WHEREAS a strong tourism industry in the region will lead to increased jobs and non­government sources of revenue which will directly benefit camp owners and local guides and indirectly benefit other local businesses, community members and the Mushkegowuk region,

AND WHEREAS the HJBCOA have been working hard towards rebuilding the association after three years of mismanagement by former staff and a historical legacy of the provincial agencies being overly involved in making key decisions affecting the camps and local communities,

AND WHEREAS the HJBCOA have demonstrated their commitment to building a close working relationship with the Mushkegowuk communities ( through a community based board structure),

AND WHEREAS the province is not providing adequate funding for HJBCOA,

MUSHKEGOWUK COUNCIL SPECIAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION

THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Assembly hereby endorses and recognizes the Hudson James Bay Cree Outfitters Association,

AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Chiefs will review HJBCOA' s financial recovery plan at the next Chiefs' meeting and will provide much needed political support to assist with renegotiating adequate funding for the HJBCOA.
