RESOLUTION NO. 1994-03-12

Co-operation in Alcohol and Drug Control

WHEREAS the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat have experienced serious problems with the abuse, illegal use, and illegal sale of alcohol and drugs on their reserves and in their traditional territories; and

WHEREAS the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat have taken steps to control the abuse and the illegal use of alcohol and drugs on their reserves and traditional territories, through by-laws and other means; and

WHEREAS it is difficult for any one community to act alone, since abuse and illegal use and illegal sale on one reserve can affect the other reserves; and

WHEREAS the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat have indicated plans to work together and support each other in their alcohol and drug control efforts, including by means of the co-ordination of Peacekeepers and Police Officers, and by considering measures such as Alcohol-Free Zones;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly endorses and encourages the plans of the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat to co-ordinate their alcohol control efforts.
