RESOLUTION NO. 1994-10-02
SUBJECT: LANDS AND RESOURCES
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations see the harvesting of migratory birds as a traditional aboriginal and treaty right;
WHEREAS this right is one that is practised as a means of survival;
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Council has embarked on significant work in traditional land use mapping, the Migratory Bird Harvesting and Management study and the Traditional Management Practises study;
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Council has mandated the Migratory Birds Working Group to advance the work of the Council as it relates to addressing the issues related to migratory birds;
WHEREAS this Assembly recognizes the significance of this work and the importance for it to continue;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly direct the Board of Chiefs of the Mushkegowuk Council to seek funding to reinstate the position of Lands and Resources Coordinator.
