Planning and Developing a Treaty PRocess

RESOLUTION NO. 1994-10-14

SUBJECT: PLANNING AND DEVELOPING A TREATY PROCESS

WHEREAS this Assembly has deliberated on the background and issues related to the Treaty Process;

AND WHEREAS it is important that the Mushkegowuk Council continue the work that it has embarked upon;

AND WHEREAS this Assembly views treaty research and development as being very important to preserve and protect the rights of its First Nation members;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council senior staff develop a draft terms of reference and identify funds to retain the services of legal counsel and a consultant to prepare a proposal, including a budget, for a Treaty Process for Mushkegowuk Council, to be reviewed by the Board of Chiefs for a decision. Such proposal and budget should include a list of the various options that could be followed, the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and the projected budget for each option.
