RESOLUTION NO. 1994-10-18
SUBJECT: RIGHTS AND TREATY RESEARCH
WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs are committed to the implementation process for the fulfilment of Treaty #9 promises as understood by our Forefathers who were signatories of Treaty #9 and as we understand the Treaty commitments today;
WHEREAS a tremendous amount of research, documentation and affidavit statements need to be gathered and secured with our Elders regarding our Treaty #9 commitments;
WHEREAS Nishnawbe Aski Nation has an active Treaty Rights and Research Program for its members communities;
WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs wish to assess and develop a position on how Treaty #9 agreements might be implemented between the Mushkegowuk Cree Nations, Ontario and Canada under the Spirit and Intent of our Treaty;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Nishnawbe Aski Nation be requested to provide funding support to establish a Local Research Unit to enable Mushkegowuk Council Chiefs to advance their Treaty process of implementation.
