RESOLUTION NO. 1995-10-6
SUBJECT: APPLICATION OF CHILD CUSTODY LAWS IN MUSHKEGOWUK COMMUNITIES
WHEREAS the existing laws regarding custody of children which are applied in Mushkegowuk territory were designed by and for non-Native governments and are not suitable for Mushkegowuk communities, and;
WHEREAS alien child custody laws which remove children from our communities deprive our communities of their children and grandchildren, which are our future generations;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council in collaboration with the Board of Directors of Payukotayno, lobby the government to have the Mushkegowuk traditional practise in child custody cases be recognized as laws governing child custody practises and that these practises be applied as law in Mushkegowuk Council territory.
