RESOLUTION NO. 1995-10-26

SUBJECT: MUSHKEGOWUK FIRST NATIONS' TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES

WHEREAS a traditional system of land and resource management existed within the Mushkegowuk area;

WHEREAS there has been an erosion of this traditional practise through government imposed systems such as traplines;

WHEREAS the erosion of this system has created a breakdown in traditional practise including the respect and recognition of traditional lands and practises of First Nations;

WHEREAS there is a need to return to our traditional practises to respect and reaffirm traditional lands of each First Nation.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly mandates the Board of Chiefs to lead and direct in the development of a Mushkegowuk First Nations' Traditional Territory Map that will outline the extent of each First Nation's traditional lands;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Assembly endorses the Board of Chiefs in the development of an accompanying protocol for the sharing of traditional lands for traditional practises between First Nations;

AND FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Chiefs report to the 11th Annual Assembly on the extent of its work in this area.
