RESOLUTION NO. 1995-10-27

SUBJECT: MIGRATORY BIRDS WORKING

WHEREAS since time immemorial the Mushkegowuk people have harvested migratory birds using traditional management practises based on conservation;

WHEREAS harvesting migratory birds continue to be a very important traditional, spiritual, economic activity;

WHEREAS this Assembly has been made aware of and discussed the history and background of the issue of migratory birds and acknowledges the previous work that has been done;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly mandates the Board of Chiefs to reactivate the Migratory Bird Working Group with the mandate to:

1) develop a process to facilitate

lawmaking for a Mushkegowuk

Waterfowl Management Plan based on traditional practises;

2) assist individual First Nations who wish to pursue the development of their own laws consistent with the regional plan; 3) establish a protocol for on-going

relationships with external government agencies;

4) provide regular up to date information

to the communities on the work of the MBWG;

provide cross cultural seminars to the non-Native public on the importance of the waterfowl harvest to the Mushkegowuk people, as opportunities arise;

take the necessary steps as directed by the Board of Chiefs.
