RESOLUTION NO. 1996-08-17
SUBJECT: NORTHERN ONTARIO HERITAGE FUND CORPORATION
WHEREAS the Minister of Northern Development and Mines recently announced new appointments to the Board of Directors of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation;
WHEREAS the mandate of the Board is to manage and administer the distribution of loans that will go towards the development and marketing of regional tourism enhancement projects, infrastructure improvements in telecommunications and transportation as well as other economic development initiatives to ensure the strategic development of northern communities;
WHEREAS it is crucial that a First Nation representative be appointed for this new Board to accurately understand and interpret the perspective and vision of First Nation people in Northern Ontario;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly mandates the Board of Chiefs to lobby senior officials of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation as well as the Minister of Northern Development and Mines to secure a First Nation representative to sit as a Board of Director on the Corporation;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Assembly mandates the Board of Chiefs to actively search and appoint a representative to the said Board.
