RESOLUTION NO. 1997-08-04
SUBJECT: KASHECHEWAN TAKEOVER OF LOCAL HYDRO SYSTEM
WHEREAS Ontario Hydro and INAC have a Power Service Agreement to provide electricity to Fort Albany and Kashechewan which gives ownership of the Fort Albany power plant and both local distribution systems to Ontario Hydro;
WHEREAS Kashecbewan First Nation is in the process of constructing its own power plant and there is no provision between Ontario Hydro and INAC in their Power Service Agreement for Ontario Hydro to be the power authority of choice in Kashechewan;
WHEREAS Kashechewan is entering into negotiations with Ontario Hydro to take over ownership of the local distribution system in Kashechewan;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council supports Kashecbewan First Nation in its goal of taking over ownership of the existing local electrical distribution system and requests Ontario Hydro and INAC to facilitate such a transition.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly support the desire of the Kashechewan First Nation and the Fort Albany First Nation to fairly resolve the issue of the combined membership list by negotiating a division, and negotiating other issues of separation, and urge the Federal Government to assist in reaching a fair and equitable outcome to the satisfaction of all parties.
