RESOLUTION NO. 1997-08-19
SUBJECT: POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION FUNDING
WHEREAS the federal government has devolved the management and administration of post-secondary education funds for First Nation members to First Nations and Education Authorities; and
WHEREAS the funding allocation for post-secondary education has been capped by INAC despite the growing number ofMushkegowuk students who are pursuing their educational goals at the post-secondary level; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations assert and rely on their rights to education in the Treaty, as promised at the signing of the Treaty,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly direct the Grand Chief and appropriate Council personnel to initiate a lobbying process, with the participation of the National Chief, to have the federal government and INAC recognize our Treaty right to education and to provide the funding required to meet the post-secondary educational needs of our First Nation members.
