RESOLUTION NO. 1997-os.:20
SUBJECT: R A I L TRANSPORTATION SERVICE BETWEEN MOOSONEE AND COCHRANE
WHEREAS the cost of transportation substantially increases the cost of doing business and governance for the Mushkegowuk Council;
WHEREAS a substantial amount of business is conducted in the regional centre of Timmins, Ontario and other communities in the area;
WHEREAS there is no convenient form of ground transportation that conforms to normal business hours for the people of the southern part of the James Bay lowlands;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs support the need for train service from Moosonee on Friday evenings and returning to Moosonee on Sunday evening; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly instruct the Grand Chief to enter into substantial discussions with the Ontario Transportation Commission to better meet the requirements of the people of James Bay.
