RESOLUTION NO. 1998-08-05
SUBJECT: P O S S I B L E RECOGNITION OF MOOSONEE FffiST NATION
WHEREAS a number of First Nation members who have taken up residence in Moosonee have expressed a desire for recognition as a new Moosonee First Nation;
AND WHEREAS such recognition would likely have a significant effect on the communities from which those individuals originate, and would likely have a significant effect on the Moose Cree First Nation, in whose traditional territory the community ofMoosonee is located;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Grand Chief and the Deputy Grand Chief be directed to begin a process to allow and assist each Mushkegowuk First Nation to assess and understand what would be the impacts of a recognition of a new Moosonee First Nation;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the results of that assessment be brought back before the Mushkegowuk Assembly for review, prior to consideration of possible recognition of a new Moosonee First Nation.
