RESOLUTION NO. 1998-08-09
SUBJECT: FORT ALBANY FIRST NATION FINANCIAL RESTRUCTURING
WHEREAS the Fort Albany First Nation is currently under third party financial management; and
WHEREAS the community of Fort Albany elected a new and progressive Chief and Council as of July 2, 1998; and
WHEREAS the third party management firm is insensitive to the needs of the community and prevents the new Chief and Council from re-structuring the current administration in order to achieve financial independence;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Council assist the Fort Albany First Nation in lobbying the Federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and specifically the Federal Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, to provide greater leeway to the new administration in Fort Albany to work on the Remedial Management Plan;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly provide advice and technical support to the Fort Albany First Nation in identifying individuals who can immediately provide direct assistance to
the First Nation in the completion of their Remedial Management Plan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly continue to provide assistance in order to ensure that training and support is available to the Fort Albany First Nation with respect to financial management procedures.
