RESOLUTION NO. 1998-08-25
SUBJECT: WOMEN'S ISSUES PORTFOLIO
WHEREAS the views and needs of Mushkegowuk women on ongoing issues require more and continuing attention from Mushkegowuk Council; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk people have elected a Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief in a major new direction for Mushkegowuk Council and to address issues of concern to all Mushkegowuk people; and
WHEREAS the women of Mushkegowuk communities have seen fit to create an association called Aboriginal Women Solidarity to increase discussion of, and take action on, the concerns and interests ofMushkegowuk women and to ensure that Mushkegowuk women are included in planning of matters that specifically affect them;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chjefs in Assembly recogruze and respect the efforts of women and women's associations in local Mushkegowuk communities to ensure that issues of concern to women be addressed;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that women's issues be identified as a distinct executive/political portfolio in
the new Mushkegowuk structure to ensure that issues important to women in Mushkegowuk communities be addressed.
