Addressing Housing Shortage and Substandards Units in Fort Albany

RESOLUTION NO. 1999-09-05

ADDRESSING HOUSING SHQRTA GE AND SUJJSTANDARD UNITS IN FORT ALBANY

WHEREAS Fort Albany First Nation is experiencing a severe shortage of housing; and

WHEREAS many existing single family homes are currently utilized out of necessity as multi-family dwellings, contributing to hardship to parents and children, fan1ily breakdown and Luiliealthy living environments; and

WHEREAS substandard housing leads to higher costs of heating, hydro electricity and related utilities, thus creating fwiher financial hardship to families on inadequate fixed incomes; and

WHEREAS temporary retrofitting of existing homes is not an effective solution for the long term;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly support the Foti Albany First Nation in acquiring the means and resources to construct additional and adequate new homes for members of the Foti Albany First Nation.
