RESOLUTION NO. 1999-09-06

REGIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs recognize the importance of the participation of the Mushkegowuk youth in the political decision making process; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs wish to reaffirm the spirit of Assembly resolutions 1992-14; 1992-16, 1993-12; and 1996-05;

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs reaffim1 that the establishment of a youth council would provide for a forum for the Mushkegowuk youth to express their concerns and interests at a regional level; and

WHEREAS important benefits to the Mushkegowuk youth would be derived by allowing a regional youth council to play an advisory role to the Board of Chiefs;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in assembly support the establishment of a Regional Youth Council to be coordinated by the newly fo1med Youth Department, and support its role as an advisory body to the Board of Chiefs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Assembly support in principle an increased participative role for youth at the Board of Chiefs during the development of a Tem1s of Reference for a Regional Youth Cotmcil

through consultation at the community level; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a role for youth be specifically outlined in the proposed new Mushkegowuk Constitution at the appropriate time.
