RESOLUTION NO. 2000-08-12
THE ESTABLISHMENT
GROUP HOMES ATTAWAPISKAT, FORT AND KASHECHEWAN
WHEREAS Payukotayno: James and Hudson Bay Family Services is mandated by the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly to provide culturally appropriate chiId welfare services recognizing the importance of keeping children in their home communities; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly adopted Resolution No. 1998-08-22 concerning the establishment of group homes in Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Kashechewan; and
WHEREAS situations are increasingly occtming in which the scarcity of placement options have resulted in the placement of children outside of Mushkegowuk TeITitory; and
WHEREAS the critical shortage of housing and overcrowded housing conditions in Mushkegowuk communities makes it difficult to meet the needs of providing foster care in a child's home community; and
WHEREAS Payukotayno: James and Hudson Bay Family Services was given direction to address the need for establishing group homes in
Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Kashechewan through Resolution No. 1998-08-22;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mush.kegowuk Cruefs in Assembly reaffim1 Resolution No. 1998-08-22 and request Payukotayno: James and Hudson Bay Family Services to create a working group comprised of Mush.kegowuk community members to explore the establislunent of group homes to better fulfil its mandate.
