YOUTH HOLISTIC SPORT AND RECREATION PROGRAMMING
WHEREAS there is a need for holistic sport and recreational prograrruning in the Mushkegowuk territory; and
WHEREAS holistic sport and recreational programming provides youth with the opportunity to learn and practice their responsibilities to themselves, their families, and to their communities; and
WHEREAS· it is believed that holistic sport and recreational programming provides a number of benefits, such as decreased diabetes rates, lower crime rates, less high school drop-outs and teenage pregnancies, in addition to alleviating many other social concerns that exist m Mushkegowuk communities; and
WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk Youtb Department began acting on Resolution 2000-08-10 by organizing the J an1es Bay Sports and Recreation Conference on May 15 and 16, 2001 which resulted in the creation of the James Bay Sports Interim Working Group;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mush.k:egowuk Chiefs in Assembly support the submission of a funding proposal to outside organizations to
create meaningful and continuous sport and recreation opportunities to Mushkegowuk Youth and communities;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly explore options that will ensure the financial sustainability of this vital sport and recreation initiative.
