RESOLUTION NO. 2001-09-29

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

WHEREAS it is the responsibility of the parent(s) or guardian(s) to ensure that their children receive education; and

WHEREAS it is the responsibility of the local education authorities in Mushkegowuk communities to provide equal educational opportunities to Mushkegowuk students; and

WHEREAS there are Mushkegowuk students who demonstrate above average athletic abilities and who wish to excel in their respective field of sports; and

WHEREAS there are no existing organized sport opportunities in Mushkegowuk communities to support the aspirations of these youth; and

WHEREAS there are parent(s) or guardian(s) who support theirchjldren's goals and who allow their aspiring athletes to attend high school away from their home communities; and

WHEREAS these parents or guardians face great financial burdens in supporting their children to realize their athletic goals; and

WHEREAS the availability of athletic scholarships could do much to support these athletes in reaching their goals;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly encourage local educational authorities to establish athletic scholarships to help Mushkegowuk youth work toward their athletic goals.
