RESOLUTION NO. 2001-09-33

REVENUE SHARING/TAXATION BY MUSHKEGOWUK FIRST NATIONS OF CORPORATIONS TAKING NATURAL RESOURCES FROM ITS TERRITORY

WHEREAS the development of natural resources based industries and their activities of exploration is advancing at a heightened pace along the James Bay coastal region, and in particular along the Mushkegowuk territory; and

WHEREAS First Nations have historically been excluded from the consultation process, employment opportunities and revenue derived from natural resources exploration and extraction initiatives;

WHEREAS Gilles Bisson is the Member of Provincial Parliament for the Tinunins/James Bay area which includes Mushkegowuk tenitory;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mushkegowuk Chiefs in Assembly support GiIles Bisson in presenting a bill to the Provincial Legislature which would allow the Mushkegowuk communities to revenue share/tax natural resource corporations, comparnes and/or industries who explore and/or extract natural resources from Mushkegowuk tenitories.

WHEREAS the audited financial statements for the period ending March 31, 2001 for Mushkegowuk Council have been reviewed by the delegates at the 16th Annual Assembly;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the financial audit ending March 31, 2001 be accepted as presented.
