High Cost of Licing and Transportation inNorthern Communities

RESOLUTION NO. 2002-09-04

HIGH COST OF LIVING AND TRANSPORTATION IN NORTHERN COMMUNITIES

WHEREAS the cost of transportation in the northern communities has continued to escalate at the same time as the cost of living is increasing, and;

WHEREAS people living in the northern communities cannot afford to pay the high cost of airfares to travel out of their communities, and;

WHEREAS the study which looked into the feasibility ofWasaya Air providing service in the Mushkegowuk Territory did not adequately address services such as patient transportation which are provided by the cmTent caiTier, and;

WHEREAS there is a need to re-examine how airline services and transportation costs could be improved.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the feasibility be revisited to allow both airlines to address these concerns.
