Resolution No. 2003-09-05

NAN LEGAL SERVICES RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PROGRAM

WHEREAS the Nishnawbe Aski Legal Services Corporation has as part of the Law Reform mandate, to service NAN members with the Restorative Justice process otherwise known as Community Accountability Conference;

WHEREAS this Assembly wishes to implement the Restorative Justice Program within the Mushkegowuk Territory to have its respective members access to the Restorative Justice Program through the euro­Canadian process;

WHEREAS the Community Accountability Conference of the Restorative Justice Program is designed to return dispute resolutions to the community level, to help in the healing process between the victim and offender and to divert significant number of offenses from the criminal courts both adult and youth criminal courts;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly supports the Community Accountability Conference within the Mushkegowuk Territory namely Attawapiskat First

Nation, Fort Albany First Nation, Kashechewan First Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, Taykwa Tagamou Nation, Chapleau Cree First Nation and Missanabie Cree First Nation.
