Resolution No. 2006-09-10

First Nations Bank

WHEREAS local economies of the member First Nation communities of Mushkegowuk continue to experience growth resulting from such activities as increasing population and resource development within the region; and

WHEREAS these communities have accessed various banking institutions within the region to provide financial services necessary to manage these economies, namely the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Scotia Bank, and Bank of Montreal; and

WHEREAS it has been the experience of individuals, agencies and organizations that these institutions have continually failed to acknowledge unique circumstances in regards to accessing financial services resulting in delay and undue hardship; and

WHEREAS it would serve the best interests of individuals, agencies and organizations of Mushkegowuk Council to investigate the viability of a possible alternate financial institution such as Peace Hills Trust.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly mandates the Grand Chief and the executive to undertake the necessary discussions and negotiations with Peace Hills Trust for the purpose of developing an agreement toward establishing a First

Nations Banking Institution in the city of Timmins specific to servIcIng the communities of Mushkegowuk Council.
