Resolution No. 2006-09-18
WHEREAS domestic violence within Mushkegowuk region has impacted all aspects of member First Nations communal living and does not discriminate between gender, age or social status affecting members of the family unit, life long learning, gainful employment, justice, health including Ontario Works clientele; and
WHEREAS there is a need for a regional intervention program that would provide assistance to individuals at the local level in the prevention and intervention of domestic violence resulting in cases of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse; and
WHEREAS this intervention program must provide resources and support toward community awareness, training, education of legal issues, personal counselling services including necessary shelters for individuals in crisis traumatized by the results of domestic violence.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly mandates the Grand Chief and the executive to identify funding to undertake a Regional Domestic Violence Intervention program that will provide necessary resources and support for community awareness, training and required facilities to support individuals in crisis.
