Resolution No. 2006-09-19

Regional Peace Keepers

WHEREAS the member First Nation communities of Mushkegowuk are impacted on an increasing basis by the availability, trafficking and abuse of illegal and controlled substances which are being trafficked by local individuals; and

WHEREAS evidence indicates that these practices are directly related to the increasing violence experienced by Youth and Family members; and

WHEREAS the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service currently do not have adequate financial and human resources to provide the level of presence in our communities that would curtail the availability, trafficking and abuse of illegal and controlled substances; and

WHEREAS it would be in the best interest of all member First Nations to be participants in a regional Peace Keepers initiative that would work in partnership with Nishnawbe Aki Police Service to assist officers in the communities and monitor the winter road.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly mandates the Grand Chief and the executive to identify required funds to undertake the organization, staffing and administration of a Peace Keepers Program in support of Nishnawbe Aski
