Community Support in Fight Against Alcohol and Drugs

WHEREAS the Elders of Mushkegowuk spoke of the tragic events that have occurred within their respective communities as a result of use of alcohol and drugs;

WHEREAS the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and the Chiefs and Councils within the communities are under­resourced to effectively address the escalating problems and issues;

WHEREAS the Elders are pleading to the community members (lnninu) to stand and to face the challenges in addressing the social issues faced by our people.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Elders of Mushkegowuk urge all Mushkegowuk community members to strongly support their Chiefs and Councils and police service providers in fighting against drug and alcohol abuse; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Elders urge and support all individual members of our communities to move towards choosing to live a more positive and healthy lifestyle for the benefit of our future generations.
