Resolution No. 2008-11-17
Continuation of James Bay Employment and Training
WHEREAS the proper skills and training of a Mushkegowuk workforce is an essential aspect of Nation Building; and
WHEREAS James Bay Employment and Training (JBET) has been highly successful in preparing members of the Mushkegowuk First Nations for employment with the DeBeers Victor Project and other opportunities; and
WHEREAS JBET funding will end March 31, 2009; and
WHEREAS there will be continuing resource development in the Mushkegowuk homeland; and
WHEREAS there will be a continuing need for the Mushkegowuk people to have a trained work force in preparation for approved resource development projects;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates of this Assembly direct the Grand Chief, Deputy Grand Chief and the present Board of JBET to lobby for and pursue continuing funding for JBET to ensure that the Mushkegowuk people will receive training to meet the skill requirements of approved resource development projects.
