Resolution No. 2008-11-29

Resource Development Activities in Mushkegowuk First Nation Homelands

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations have always maintained their right to the land including its use and protection; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations understanding of the Treaty is that their rights were not diminished or surrendered; and

WHEREAS the Province of Ontario has allowed and continues to allow resource development activities to be developed without consent throughout our homelands.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk First Nations declare that they will accept no new resource development projects on their homelands until there is:

Agreement that all such projects require the full consent of First Nations.

First Nation approved Land Use Plans, development with adequate funding, which set out which lands will be available for development.

Agreement on environmental assessments and permitting requirements for all resource development activities.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that existing projects may continue only where there is full consent of the First Nations involved and where a legitimate Impacts and Benefits Agreement exists; without prejudice to projects

consented to by a Mushkegowuk First Nation or being developed with the consent of a Mushkegowuk First Nation.
