Resolution No. 2009-08-09

Search and Rescue

WHEREAS search and rescue activities have been going on for many years in the Mushkegowuk communities; and

WHEREAS the communities of the Mushkegowuk region have experienced emergency situations throughout the years that have required the cooperative efforts of skilled emergency service personnel as well as community volunteers to carry out these activities; and

WHEREAS the Emergency Preparedness & Response Center building in Moose Factory, Ontario was constructed as a regional facility that would benefit all Mushkegowuk First Nations;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates acknowledge the importance of establishing a recognized Regional Search & Rescue Organization and becoming a member in good standing of the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association;

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Chiefs and delegates mandate the Grand Chief and the Executive to lobby

for and pursue financial support from the Governments of Ontario and Canada for the development and implementation of such an organization;

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that Mushkegowuk Technical Services' Emergency Management Services Coordinator will work closely with the First Nation community leaders and personnel to ensure the coordination of training and resources to support this initiative;

FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED that the Moose Cree First Nation Emergency Preparedness & Response Center building be fully utilized as a regional emergency preparedness and response center that would assist Mushkegowuk First Nations in the development and implementation of a regional Search and Rescue strategy.
