Provincial Funding for Land Use Planning

WHEREAS the Ontario Government has expressed interest in improving relations with First Nations and has committed to supporting First Nation led land use planning; and

WHEREAS the Mushkegowuk First Nations supported the need to complete land use planning for the Mushkegowuk territory at the 2008 Mushkegowuk Annual Assembly; and

WHEREAS Mushkegowuk Council has prepared and submitted to the Province a detailed workplan and budget for land use planning, including funding for each of the Mushkegowuk First Nations, but have not yet received a response; and

WHEREAS various Mushkegowuk First Nations have received verbal commjtments for funding for land use planning from the Province, but the Province has not followed through on those commitments;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Assembly reconfirms the commitment of the Mushkegowuk to planning the entire Mushkegowuk region and calls on the Ontario

Government to provide adequate funding; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Grand Chief and leadership of Mushkegowuk Council should seek out other potential partners who would be willing to support the land use planning activities of the Mushkegowuk.
